This week in KOC – New lab approved for Oaxaca, Mexico

It is exciting to let you know that the KoC board has voted and approved to set up a new lab in José Vasconcelos school, this year.

This is an elementary bilingual school located in Santa Cruz Xoxocotlán, Oaxaca, México. It is ~10 minutes from Emiliano Zapata school(latest KoC lab). It is located in the Monte Albán area.

The school has vegetable gardens and the produce is used to prepare school lunches.  It is one of the few schools in the area that has a hot lunch program. When the students finish eating their hot lunch, which they pay five pesos for, members of the community can also come in and have a hot lunch. The community started around 15 years ago. They speak different dialects as Zapoteco, Mixteco and Mixe. They speak Spanish too. A total of 150 kids attend the elementary school in this community.
